In 1997, Jeremy Wrenn formed a two-man shoegaze project called Airiel. Fast forward to 2008 and the band is 4 members strong, has toured nationally and internationally, released 2 singles, 5 EP's (including 1 box set) and multiple compilation tracks leading them to their latest album, The Battle of Sealand.
Along with Highwheel Records (Chicago), Airiel recorded Sealand in January of 2007. Having released so many EP's in the past few years, the band was overdue for a full length effort and it was exactly what people expected: loud, noisy guitars, danceable rhythms, and catchy vocal melodies. The album showcased the band's current lineup well and captured the live sound that they had developed while touring. Shortly after its release, a Japanese version of the album was released by Quince Records in Japan, featuring a different song line up as well as 2 bonus tracks pulled from the self-released Airiel EP.
Known for their volume and live show intensity, Airiel leaves a solid mark wherever they play. Doing their best to break out of the typical shoegaze stereotypes, the band has high energy performances that are blisteringly loud, prompting them to hand out ear plugs to the crowds.
